We chose to do Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta aka Lady Gaga. We think she is a rebel, because she isn't afraid to be herself by dressing uniquely and acting the way she wants. We also think she's a rebel because she doesn't care that people call her a guy even though she might have some manly features. She is sort of a break-out star because there isn't any other famous person that is "unique." She is an inspiration because she wears stuff on her face and normally people don't do things like that so she should be remembered because she isn't afraid just to kick back and be herself and she sort of gives people something to talk about because her clothes are so obscene and she doesn't care. Her music is also against some individual opinions about sexuality because she sings about sex with women in her song "Poker Face." She exhibits anger as well smashing glass on pianos in a music video of hers.
Here in the United States there are a lot of people but mainly people don't dress in such obscene ways. Most people just wear jeans and a t-shirt. It is normal because everyone mainly does it in which they find comfort in it. Where if you dressed like Lady Gaga you would get stares because you look different. So Lady Gaga bends the rules and wears plastic, wears masks covering her face, and sometimes shes almost completely naked. She is rebelling against normal dress codes.
Some people are saying in interviews that they don't agree with our opinion stating she is the most unique artist out there right now. While other sources are agreeing.
Rolling Stone magazine says "Lady Gaga struts the streets pants-less, has everyone from Weezer to Justin Timberlake singing her songs and has moved nearly 10 million digital singles — and now she’s on the cover of Rolling Stone’s annual Hot List."

Clarice's Opinion: I really do not like Lady Gaga. I just decided to go with Sophie-Grace and her idea for this project. Lady Gaga is pretty awful and I don't like her music. She seems pretty sexual if not ignorant... and I don't really agree with most of the things she does but I do think its brave of her dressing the way she wants and doesn't give a fuck.
Sophie-Grace's Opinion: Clarice doesn't know what she is talking about. In MY opinion, Lady Gaga is pretty cool. She dresses a bit out there, yes, but its her fun loving way of life, and her mannish charm that makes me love her so much. She really is an inspiration to us all, for her brave way of singing, from her mannishly manly low voice, to her gyrating body movements.

This is a very well put blog on Lady Gaga. I do feel there could be more info on her but it does give a clear definition of why she is a rebel. I personally like some of Lady gagas music an do think she is a rebel. I think its rude of people to say she use to be a man an i really dont see the manly features. She is a rebel because of the way she acts an dresses and very weird. I think you should go more in depth with her background but this is excellent. ReplyDeleteA) During your first paragraph you state several arguments supporting your claim that Lady Gaga is a rebel but in order to understand why those things are "rebellious" we must understand the context in which she is acting. For instance you claim that it is rebellious that "she wears stuff on her face" but why is that challenging the system? What is the norm in our culture and why is going against it rebellious? Also exhibiting anger and sexuality may be rebellious acts but why should they be considered such? What in our culture says that Lady Gaga should not be angry or sexual? Give us the context.
B) Keep adding other sources of information, remember that they don't have to be opinion based, they could be setting the context. For instance you have a quote that calls her out on genderbending/ assumes her to be a trans person, what about that is rebellious? Where could you find information related to how trans people are seen in our society.
C) It is nice that you have the source list but you could easily make those links. Please also continue to add links. It is one of the essentials in online interaction. It makes the blogging process more than just one person's opinion, rather connects us to a network of information. Thanks for the entertaining read, I did not have time to check out the interview but maybe another time.
